Student Spotlight“Life is love, without love there is no life,” this touching quote is the philosophy of this month’s student spotlight, Miracle Harris. Ms. Harris is originally from Memphis, Tennessee. While here in Memphis she has attended the following schools: Craigmont, Keystone, and Corning. Ms. Harris is currently in the 11th grade, and will be moving to the 12th next year. Here at Craigmont, Ms. Harris is a part of the softball team and well involved in our JROTC program. She doesn’t want to go to college, so after high school she plans to join the United States Navy. During her free time, she enjoys eating, sleeping, and playing softball. Ms. Harris likes being a team leader, and taking charge. She also likes helping people. Lastly, she likes the book Runaway by Ariel Stein. Ms. Harris, when asked how she saw the future of education, said, “I see the future of education getting more advanced yet more pointless. I say pointless because now computers are taking over, soon we won’t even have to write things down anymore.” “Ms. Harris M. is the class leader of thirty- five freshman’s. This last month she lead her class, took charge, and lead them to an outstanding inspection score and her class was the only class that turned in all of their uniforms. To get thirty- five freshmen’s to follow her lead is a job well done.” - SGT.Aldridge | Teacher Spotlight“To motivate young people to be better citizens,” this quote is the motto of this month’s teacher spotlight, Lieutenant Colonel Robert Nipp. Colonel Nipp is from Union City, Tennessee. He spent twenty-three years in the United States Army. Colonel Nipp has been living in Memphis for ten years, and for those ten years he has been teaching here at Craigmont. He has been teaching JROTC 3, JROTC 4, and personal finance for all ten years here at CHS. When asked how he saw the future of education, Colonel Nipp responded, “-a lot of very serious challenges ahead. Sometimes it doesn’t look good but faithfully we have some good students.” During his leisure time, Colonel Nipp enjoys playing golf. He also likes history books, books by John Stein Beck, the movie Lincoln, and the subject of history. He went to an undergraduate school, UT Martin, where he studied psychology. After that, he attended the University of Alabama, where he got his master’s in business. “Colonel Nipp is an outstanding teacher; he interacts with his students in a way that helps us learn. Every day we learn something that will be very useful,’’ said one of his many students Rickael Rainey. Not only students notice the greatness of this amazing teacher, so does the rest of the faculty. First Sergeant Larry Aldridge works extremely close with Colonel Nipp and this is what he said about Colonel Nipp, “Over the last month Colonel Nipp has worked many hours preparing the Chief Battalion for the annual inspection and preparing his financial class. I see Colonel Nipp stay every day after school to work with his financial class to make sure they understand the world of money and taxes , his students say he’s hard, but I asked them are they learning anything and the answer is always the same, “yes,” so to me that I the number one ideal to learn. Colonel Nipp, job well done.” |
Staff SpotlightThe staff of the month for 2014 is Ms. Carolyn Taalib-Din. She is originally from Somerville, TN and she moved to Memphis when she was 21. She’s lived in Memphis for 31 years and she has worked for the Memphis City Schools District for 25 Years. Her hobbies include making crafts, sewing, and volunteering. She is also the top adviser for student council other than her main responsibility as records keeper. She works hard with students and faculty every day, helping and bringing joy into people’s lives. When asked how she saw the future of education she replied, “The well-being of our students should always come first, but as educators, if we continue on our current path, no one will benefit from our teachings.” Ms. Taalib-Din is a second mother to many of the students at Craigmont, including myself and she is indeed a phenomenal woman. She is one of the greatest role models I have come to know in my 3 years as a student here. She will do anything for you no matter what it is or how she feels. I love and appreciate her hard work, dedication, and patience that she has displayed through her years of service. Thank you for all you have done. - Victor Harris Others have the following to say about our Ms.T..... There are several reasons that one might nominate Ms. Carolyn Taalib-Din for staff of the month, but that would be a dissertation. So I will just share a few. This blessed and highly favored, positive energy and genuinely good spirited individual is not a big talker. That is not her thing. She is a big doer. If you are looking for the right one to get something done look no more, Ms. T. is the perfect woman for the job. She is a quiet giant continuously going above and beyond the call of duty as it relates to her job as a Records Secretary at Craigmont High and C.H. S Student Council Sponsor. Although she sponsors Craigmont High Student Council with three others It is no secret that she is the lead in the planning and execution of all things STUCO (field trips, events, meeting etc). She works tirelessly as the records secretary to make sure that accuracy is ensured. Encouraging our youth as well as others and recognizing their strengths is something she does with out effort She is an excellent task manager. Not only loved but well liked by the admin team, faculty, staff and student body. Handling people with kindness is her nature and if the “kill them with kindness” metaphor came to fruition no one at Craigmont would be alive. Working with Ms T. Is a joy. Not only is she a joy to work with she is a blessing. -Jeanine Jones, Library Information Specialist “I’ve never seen her lose he cool She is always poised and professional.” -Trenda Myers Guidance Counselor When I think of Ms. Taalib-Din I think of a hard working individual who loves each and every child in her own way. If it’s nothing but offering a genuine smile or giving me a hard smack on the head, and I know that she has my best interest in heart. - Julius Bedford Ms. T is a great advisor. She is a wonderful inspiration on children who want to grow and be a strong leader. Whatever she does she gives 100% at it. She treats all student council members as if they are one of her own children. She is one of the main reasons why I love coming to school and can’t wait to spend my last year seeing what other great things she has in store. -Nakyia Davis Mrs.T is an amazing person. She cares so much about the school and everyone; she is one of the most dedicated people I know. I believe she deserves this award because she works hard not just to get a paycheck but she truly cares about us. She has helped me in ways Mrs. T may not think. I will always be grateful for her, she has a beautiful soul. - Alexceia Jackson Mrs. T, is the most hard working woman I have ever met. She has an awesome spirit, never letting daunting tasks break her. She always wears a smile and rarely says no. She support and cares for us. For this, I will always be grateful . Thank you for all of your hard work and dedication. -Morgan Morris To an adviser that is always constantly helping, I want to say THANK YOU. Thank you for always giving us projects and events to do. Thank you for all the advice. Thank you for being here letting me know I always have somebody to come to. You've made this year exciting and full of laughter and fun. Because of you I am proud to say I am a proud member of Student Council. -Annie Jonhatan Ms. T. is the most hardworking, dedicated person I know. She is very kind. She is also what I like to call "a go getter." When you give her a task she works relentlessly to complete it in its entirety. She is dependable, trustworthy and she goes beyond the call of duty completing things that I need done in advance, before I can ask her. Ms. T. is a very proactive lady. She is the best at what she does, and I am more than thankful to have her on my team. -Ms. Sherilyn Brown, Principal My Mom, Carolyn Taalib-Din is a hard working, professional, caring, and loyal employee, constituent, co-worker, friend, and mother. In her 24 plus years of working for the MCS/SCS school systems, she has made a respectable reputation for herself within the school system over the years. During her 17 years at Craigmont, she has held 3 different positions and has been one of the Student Council advisors for the last 4 years. She has also done various events and programs for Craigmont and always keeps the school’s best interest at heart. Ms. Taalib-Din has always remained humble and behind the scenes when doing work or helping others. She never likes to take credit for the work she does, but rather ensure that whatever she does helps others and leaves an impact on lives of the children she works with. As a mother, she never ceases to amaze me with all she does and how self-less she is when it comes to helping others. She deserves all the credit when it comes to raising me and all that she has done for Craigmont. -Kalemah Taalib-Din Ms. T. works tirelessly to assist wherever and whenever she is needed. She displays teamwork and enthusiasm in completing any task assigned to her. -Dr. Willie Williams, Assistant Principal | Parent Spotlight |
