Student SpotlightThis month’s student spotlight is on Kiyatta Freeman. Kiyatta is originally from Greenwood, Mississippi but she has been in Memphis for two years. She is currently in the tenth grade. Before attending Craigmont she went to Memphis Business Academy (MBA) and Leflore high school, which is located in Mississippi. After high school, Kiyatta plans to attend Tennessee State University (TSU) where she plans to get her Bachelor’s degree in medicine so she can be an OBGYN. In order to keep herself motivated she goes by her motto, “Only God can judge.” In her spare time, she likes to cheer and cook. Her favorite movie is Titanic and her favorite subject is English. She also likes to watch Real Housewives of Atlanta. Her favorite book is "The Book Thief" by Markus Zusak. Kiyatti’s favorite food is chicken and her favorite color is pink. She loves Louis Vutton. She also told us that she wants to travel world. She was asked how she sees the future of education. Her response was, “I believe there will be advantages in technology.” Written by: Rickael Rainey | Teacher Spotlight“Some succeed because they are destined to; most succeed because they are determined to.” This amazing quote sits on the desk of this month’s teacher spotlight, Mr. Gus Connlley. Mr. Connlley is originally from Minneapolis, Minnesota. He has lived in Memphis for two years, and has been teaching here at CHS for those two years. During these years, he has taught advanced algebra and trigonometry, which he still currently teaches. Mr. Connlley is the head coach for our girls’ soccer team, senior advisor, and prom coordinator. When asked what he likes best about his job he responded, “The students, they are the reason I get up each morning.” Mr. Connlley graduated from Saint Olaf College, which is located in North Field, Minnesota. There he studied theater and Norwegian language and culture. He was asked how he saw the future of education. His response was, “We are at an interesting point because there is so much changing. I think education has to change to match the priorities of the generation. It needs to catch up.” In his spare time, Mr. Connley likes to travel, go outside, hike, visit different restaurants, and to cook. He loves the Star Trek movies, new and old. Staff Spotlight The Staff Spotlight is on Ms. Ruby Moore for the month of April. “Ms. Moore makes a teacher’s job much easier. She is a team player, who is calm, organized and knowledgeable. Ms. Moore is also a person who loves children and knows when to back off and step,” said Ms. Bryant, when she recommended Ms. Moore for the monthly spotlight. Ms. Moore is a native of the wonderful city of Memphis, Tennessee. She has been a paraprofessional for five years now. She enjoys this position because, “Working with various areas of exceptionalities, it is rewarding to witness students gain gradually their goals and objective with the help of a team effort.” Some of Ms. Moore’s past-times and hobbies include: reading, watching movies, playing crossword puzzles, and reading the newspaper. Some of her favorites are fried chicken, soul food, The Family Feud, and travelling. Her motto is, “Every child can learn; it doesn’t matter who they are.” When asked how did she see the future of education, her response was, “Education seemingly is going toward technology; however, students behavior appear limited, because of technology and it doesn’t allow them to experience socialization appropriately.” Written by: Timothy Richmond, Jr. | Parent Spotlight Mr. Christopher Ellis is being awarded the parent spotlight for the month April. Mr. Ellis is the parent of Jordan and Morgan Morris, and also volunteers as the tennis coach here at Craigmont. He enjoys playing tennis, reading, fishing, and cooking. His motto is, "You can work now and plat a lot, or you can play now and work hard for the best of your life." Some of his favorites include: person- Mother, Barbara J. Bones; Movies- The Wiz and Schindler's List; Book- To Be A Slave (Julius Lester); Place- Destin, Florida. When asked: "How do you see the future of education?"
