Lawrence Mosley, safety and wide receiver of the CHS football team, has just taken the next step forward in his life as a football player. He received a full scholarship to the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, where he will major in business —entrepreneurship. Although, his main priority will be football. His greatest accomplishments as an athlete was being named MVP and leading his team. Though Mosely felt the work outs were most difficult, it was still enjoyable to play. The most challenging thing as a football star for Mosely was transitioning from basketball to football. In both sports he possessed two great strengths, leadership and diligence.
Mosely was influenced most by his parents because as “ They have hard work ethic and I want to get to their level one day.” Mosely was inspired to play football because he wants to be successful and to make money doing something that he loves to do. Mosely was also influenced by Desean Jackson, who he believes is the best player currently , as a result he is a Patriots’ fan.
After college Mosely wants to be an entrepreneur, or own his own business, and play in the NFL. In five years he sees himself in the NFL draft and five years after the draft, playing polo with the best of the best.

“The triumph can’t be had without the struggle” – Wilma Rudolph. This statement describes the young and amazing Demarious Carson. Carson received a $12,000 scholarship to Bethel University, which will partially cover for each semester. Cason was the middle linebacker for Craigmont High’s varsity football team. He has a passion for his sport as well as his school. He feels that CHS was an open environment and he felt welcomed. He felt honored to play on the team and he learned a lot playing. He hopes to carry the success from Craigmont on to college. Cason’s best game, in his opinion, was against Westwood when he achieved two interceptions, one touchdown, and eleven tackles. That’s a night he will never forget and it will always motivate him to play better. He says that he will miss his team but he has more to look forward to now.
Cason will carry several accomplishments with him to college. One accomplishment would be when he won the Harrison Jones award in an all-star game, as well as defensive player of the year. However, Cason says that the most difficult thing about football is being tough because, “you can’t teach heart.” When playing Cason can release his pain and anger that is built up. The most challenging thing to do was “humbling myself, I’m always cocky and tough.” According to Cason, success in his sport is “knowing you gave it your all and that you fought to the end. “ His influence was Coach Keith Gibbs because of his leadership and toughness. “My little brother inspires me to play .He looks up to people playing sports. He looks up to me, “ said Cason. Cason will continue to play well and give his brother someone to look up to.
He believes that Patrick Willis from the San Francisco 49ers is the best player currently. Cason believes that discipline, hard –work and humbleness makes a great football player and he believes that he fits that description. When in college Cason will major in criminal justice because he wants to pursue a career in crime-scene- investigation. He would like to build a family as well. Cason was asked where he saw himself in five, ten years. His response was, “In five years I see myself as highly successful with a family. In ten years I see myself being an investigator, doing my job as a crime scene investigator.”

Lift Ev'ry Voice and Sing - often called "The Black National Anthem" - was written as a poem by James Weldon Johnson (1871-1938) and then set to music by his brother John Rosamond Johnson (1873-1954) in 1899. It was first performed in public in the Johnsons' hometown of Jacksonville, Florida as part of a celebration of Lincoln's Birthday on February 12, 1900 by a choir of 500 schoolchildren at the segregated Stanton School, where James Weldon Johnson was principal.
Lift Every Voice and Sing
Lift ev'ry voice and sing,
'Til earth and heaven ring,
Ring with the harmonies of Liberty;
Let our rejoicing rise
High as the list'ning skies,
Let it resound loud as the rolling sea.
Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us,
Sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us;
Facing the rising sun of our new day begun,
Let us march on 'til victory is won.
Stony the road we trod,
Bitter the chastening rod,
Felt in the days when hope unborn had died;
Yet with a steady beat,
Have not our weary feet
Come to the place for which our fathers sighed?
We have come over a way that with tears has been watered,
We have come, treading our path through the blood of the slaughtered,
Out from the gloomy past,
'Til now we stand at last
Where the white gleam of our bright star is cast.
God of our weary years,
God of our silent tears,
Thou who has brought us thus far on the way;
Thou who has by Thy might
Led us into the light,
Keep us forever in the path, we pray.
Lest our feet stray from the places, our God, where we met Thee,
Lest, our hearts drunk with the wine of the world, we forget Thee;
Shadowed beneath Thy hand,
May we forever stand,
True to our God,
True to our native land.

Still I Rise
by Maya Angelou
You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise.
Does my sassiness upset you?
Why are you beset with gloom?
'Cause I walk like I've got oil wells
Pumping in my living room.
Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I'll rise.
Did you want to see me broken?
Bowed head and lowered eyes?
Shoulders falling down like teardrops,
Weakened by my soulful cries?
Does my haughtiness offend you?
Don't you take it awful hard
'Cause I laugh like I've got gold mines
Diggin' in my own backyard.
You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I'll rise.
Does my sexiness upset you?
Does it come as a surprise
That I dance like I've got diamonds
At the meeting of my thighs?
Out of the huts of history's shame
I rise
Up from a past that's rooted in pain
I rise
I'm a black ocean, leaping and wide,
Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.
Leaving behind nights of terror and fear
I rise
Into a daybreak that's wondrously clear
I rise
Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,
I am the dream and the hope of the slave.
I rise
I rise
I rise.
