Lady Chiefs Volleyball

“The price of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand, and the determination that whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand.”
-Vince Lombardi
“Although we could have done better at the end of the thus season, I felt great and confident about the season this year,” stated by Candace Black, a player of the Lady Chiefs volleyball team. The Craigmont Lady Chiefs volleyball team was exceptional, with the coaching of Coach Anderson. Coach Anderson has been coaching for women's sports for fifteen years and coaching volleyball for three of those years. Coach Anderson said his only disappointment was not being mentally prepared and losing the first round of Regionals. However, he said he was most definitely proud of their refusal to lose during the regular season. No matter how hard the challenge was; they fought through it. He was also proud of the team unity. Coach Anderson believes this is the best volleyball team so far. The Lady Chiefs went undefeated with a record of 19-0 until the first round regional game where they ended the season with a record of 19-1.There has not been a Craigmont team that has went undefeated since 1978 in the regular season until now. The team wasn't ranked this year because Commercial Appeal said the district wasn't as strong as others. Nevertheless, they were the 16WA lead champions, district champions, and city champions. Soon, they will be receiving a plaque for being the city champions. The team captain was Miara Holiday, who also received the MVP award. Denisha Wells, Daja Scurlock, and Darian Jones also received awards. The season was great for the Lady Chiefs volleyball team, and we hope they do even better next year.

CHS Duke Out Debates
On October 19, 2013 at the Trezevant High Invitational 3 CHS Debate teams competed. Those three teams were:
Julius Bedford & Erica Richmond
Timothy Richmond & SharUndra Rodgers and
Victor & Victoria Harris.
On October 19, 2013, 37 debaters debated and speaker awards were awarded to the top twenty speakers. The Varsity competition is very tough and competitive. Some of the best speakers in Shelby County are debaters.
Craigmont was bestowed honors as follows:
Erica Richmond- 20th Speaker
Timothy Richmond- 15th Speaker &
Julius Bedford- 5th Speaker
“We hope that our success will continue.”
Three teams from CHS competed at this tournament, all three varsity teams aforementioned. We fought as Chiefs’ do and finished the preliminary rounds with a combined total of 8 wins and 4 lose;
Victor and Victoria: 2-2
Julius and Erica: 3-1
Timothy and SharUndra: 3-1
Out of the many teams that debated, the teams of Erica and Julius ranked 5th overall and the team of Timothy and SharUndra ranked 8th overall. These two teams were able to advance to the Quarter- finals were they endured some of the best teams that day. The top 8 teams duked it out in the quarter-finals.
Julius and Erica were victorious against Middle College in their quarter-final round and advanced again to face……
Nigel Greer and Errol Johnson, city champions from Overton High School, who defeated Craigmont’s Timothy and SharUndra in their quarter-final round. “Nigel and Errol are one of the best teams in the entire league and they take debate seriously.” They went undefeated at this tournament.
In the semi-finals Overton versus Craigmont, the entire round was intense and epic. It could have went either way but Overton reigned supreme, they refused to give up and Craigmont refused to give up.
We look forward to surpassing these achievements and achieving more at the next tournament. The next tournament will be at Central High on November 23, 2013.
Come out and support the Craigmont Debate Squad.!
“I love argument, I love debate. I don't expect anyone just to sit there and agree with me, that's not their job.
